CoOpStore Under Construction

Opening of new Co-op to create jobs for Stafford at Beacon Business Park

Posted by | Beacon Business Park, News | No Comments

In a few months a new Central England Co-operative store is expected to open on Beacon Business Park, creating dozens of jobs for the local community and providing a much-needed amenity for housing developments nearby. The 4,000 sq ft convenience store will be located off the Blackheath Lane roundabout, on the Weston Road out of Stafford towards the County Showground.

The site was purchased by Stafford-based Inglewood Investments and construction is progressing quickly. The external shell of the store has been completed and work on the interior of the Co-op will commence shortly.    The new convenience store will be fitted out with pioneering energy efficient refrigeration technologies to minimise environmental impact and LED lighting.

Not only will the new Co-op be creating new jobs, it will also play a key role in the local community. The retailer runs a Community Dividend scheme, which gives local good causes and community groups the chance to apply for a grant ranging from £100 to £5,000. The introduction of a food bank collection point will be installed to support even more local causes and a lifesaving defibrillator will also be located onsite.

Jamie Martin, Co-op Operations Manager for the area, said: “We are excited about our new store in Stafford and about being part of the local community. The new site will feature a vibrant and modern store that will provide all customers and members with all of their essentials and also see us invest in the local economy and create jobs for local people.”

Andrew Harp, Councillor and representative of the Milwich ward on Stafford Borough Council, has praised the opening on the new Co-op, as it will give a boost to the economy and create more jobs. “Any business that opens in Stafford is great news for the town,” he said, “The business park has been going for years and Stafford as a town is blessed with new businesses opening. It’s all good for the economy.”

The Co-op is the latest exciting addition to the 50-acre development zone after Costa Coffee Drive Thru which opened in May 2018. It is currently scheduled to open before the end of the year and will be marked with a range of special events.

A further 50 acres on Beacon Business Park Growth Point was granted planning permission in 2012 for:

  • 11,000 sqm B1 Office
  • 33,000 sqm B1 Light industrial
  • 16,500 sqm B2 General industrial
  • 11,000 sqm Warehouse
  • 3,000 sqm Mixed A3, A4, C1 and D1.

Classeq factory in Stafford

Commercial dishwasher, glassware and ice machine manufacturer, Classeq has relocated to a new, purpose built factory on Beacon Business Park, Stafford. The new 2,700 sq. m. factory will enable Classeq to increase UK production by 60% from 10,000 units to meet worldwide demand.

Managing director David Smithson said: “This is an incredibly exciting move in Classeq’s growth, and underpins our 100 per cent commitment to our manufacturing future in the UK.

“We are delighted to be opening the doors to our new manufacturing facility and supporting the local jobs market here in Stafford.

“In a category where the majority of white goods are manufactured overseas, we are proud to be investing in Britain and demonstrating that we can produce high quality machines that offer great value for money – and remain highly competitive in today’s market.”

Steven Hulbert, supply and logistics manager at Classeq, said: “Our site at Hixon was in an ideal location but it was very dated. This new facility is purpose-built for our exact needs, it has been a very significant investment.

“At the moment, Classeq exports to around eight countries, but we see international sales as a major growth area for us. We want to increase our annual production to 16,000 units and to do that we needed somewhere which would allow us to expand.

“So as well as the new factory, we have planning permission for a new building on a parcel of land at the back of the factory which we can construct when the time comes.”

Steven added: “We have transferred our 30 staff from the old site in Hixon, to the new factory and as we grow there will be an opportunity to create even more new jobs.”

The new facility was officially opened by Jurgen and Ralph Winterhalter – directors of Classeq’s parent company, Winterhalter.

Jurgen said: “Classeq is well set for the future and this new factory shows our commitment to the business in the UK.”

Classeq to build new facility at Beacon Business Park

Posted by | Beacon Business Park, News | No Comments

A GERMAN-owned manufacturer is set to expand operations in the West Midlands with the construction of a new purpose-built factory.

Classeq, which manufactures commercial dishwashers, has exchanged contracts and applied for planning permission to build the new facility at Beacon Business Park in Stafford. The facility is set to create a number of new jobs.

Classeq, currently based in Hixon, was set up in 1977 to provide glass and dishwashing equipment to the hospitality industry.A The company has since grown to dominate its sector and was purchased by German-based family-owned business Winterhalter Gastronom in 2004 when the company looked to increase its investment in the UK.

Growth over the past 12 years has seen Classeq expand to supply an extensive range of industrial washing machines, ice making machines and accessories for customers in the UK, Europe, Australia, South Africa and Asia.

Its 45-strong workforce designs, develops and produces specialist machines for all types of hospitality venues including those with limited space, machines specifically for the Asian market, and even machines for high speed trains in Germany and the rest of Europe.

A strategic review in 2014 led to further expansion of the product range, a redesign of all existing products and the realisation that it had outgrown its existing premises and needed to expand its own manufacturing and distribution operation into a single facility within Staffordshire.

A planning application designed by Stafford-based architects Barnett Ratcliffe Partnership was submitted earlier this year.

Construction of the new 3,000 square metre facility will incorporate purpose-built production lines, sales and support offices, meeting rooms and a new showroom, all under one roof.

The new plant follows the recent completion of a 4,000msq headquarters building at Beacon Business Park, again for a German business – construction equipment group Wacker Neuson.

Gary Jones, technical director at Classeq, said: “The location of Beacon Business Park, delivering fast access to the entire UK transport network will improve the delivery service throughout our UK customer base and direct access to all the UK ports for our expanding worldwide export shipments.

“Relocating closer to Stafford also means that our workforce can cycle to work or take advantage of public transport.”

Scott Ward, commercial director at Transerv Europe, said: “Beacon Business Park is ideally situated, with excellent transport routes.

“The site is secure and is seen as a vibrant development. Our expansion plans were embraced.”

Beacon Business Park donates three brass instruments

Posted by | Beacon Business Park, News | No Comments

Beacon Business Park in Stafford has generously donated three brass instruments to the music department at their neighbouring school, The Weston Road Academy, enabling future generations of students to widen their educational experiences and have the chance to learn a valuable new skill. Benson Greatrex, one of the directors of Beacon Business Park, presented the school with two trumpets and one French horn on Wednesday 20 January 2016.

WestonRoadAcademyPupils from Weston Road Academy had entertained commercial property professionals from across the Midlands at the opening of Beacon Business Park’s 50 acre site extension in September last year. Their musical ensemble, led by Bill Moss, head of performing arts at the Academy, put on an impressive performance for guests. The show was thoroughly enjoyed by all, including the Mayor of Stafford, Peter Jones.

Bill Moss, who has been teaching music for over 25 years, says, “learning to play a musical instrument not only develops personal confidence and team skills, but it is proven to improve academic success in other areas too. Young people really look forward to and enjoy being involved in music, and the joy it brings can have a lasting positive effect on other areas of their life. The rewards should not be overlooked.”

Benson Greatrex added “The launch event was a great success, the fantastic performance of the youngsters from Weston Road Academy ensemble was a great showcase for their talents and enthusiasm. The school has a fantastic reputation for musical education and we hope the instruments will be enjoyed for many years to come.”
